SOA and the Agile Warfighter: The DoD Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) Program
The Department of Defense (DOD) Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) initiative is probably the largest and most advanced SOA initiative to date. It links combat and other armed services personnel, logistics, business, intelligence and command centers to facilitate information sharing, accelerate decision-making, and improve operations.

The DOD’s service oriented approached is enabling secure, agile, dependable, interoperable data-sharing, where warfighters, business and intelligence users share knowledge on a global network. The infrastructure is comprised of a Service Oriented Architecture Framework (SOAF) and nine core services.

This presentation will review the goals and objective of the NCES program, discuss why a service-oriented approach makes sense, and describe in detail the system architecture and core services. It will provide insights on how this massive-scale SOA deployment is being used, and how issues around SOA governance, effective collaboration and policy management/enforcement are being addressed.

This presentation is designed for both business and IT professionals who have or are considering embarking on a large-scale SOA initiative.
