SAN FRANCISCO, July 1, 2009 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced the plenary agenda for its 23rd Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference (EAPC) to be held in Toronto, July 20-22, 2009 at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre. The theme of the EAPC, “The Enterprise Architecture Lifecycle,” will focus on how to bring together the various pieces of enterprise architecture (EA) to form a complete project lifecycle.
The EAPC will include sessions, tutorials, and case studies from 18 conference tracks across a range of topics and issues that impact businesses and government organizations today. These sessions will discuss and dissect enterprise information architectures, SOA, modeling languages and tools for EA, the intersection of cloud computing and EA, and much more.

The opening plenary session on Monday, July 20 will feature a keynote from Allen Brown, president and CEO, The Open Group, who will discuss how The Open Group has used TOGAF™ for its own internal systems and the business benefits that have been realized so far, as well as lessons learned along the way. The session roster also includes a presentation by Richard Bryson, chief architect, Government of Canada on “Enterprise Architecture in Government: A Collaborative Venture;” and a summary of enterprise architecture survey results presented by Jane Varnus, architecture consultant, Bank of Montreal, Canada and Mike Turner, enterprise architect, Capgemini, UK. Parallel streams, including “EA in Complex Organizations” hosted by Jason Uppal, chief architect, QR Systems, and “Holistic Enterprise Architecture and the Role of ‘Business,’” hosted by Walter Stahlecker, Fellow of The Open Group, will address key topics in the enterprise architecture lifecycle, including business, application, data and technology architectures.
The Open Group’s Vice President of Government Program & Managing Director, Dave Lounsbury, and Dr. Scott Radeztsky, chief technologist for Sun’s Systems Engineering organization in North and South America, will co-host a cloud computing track on Wednesday that will include discussions on the current landscape of the cloud, the role of enterprise architecture, and security and identity in the cloud. Sessions include a look at various cloud computing value propositions, models, architectures, and providers; and an introduction to customer requirements for enterprise cloud computing initiatives. In this track, Martin Harris, director, Product Management, Platform Computing, will present on “Bringing the Benefits of Cloud Computing to the Enterprise”. Cloud Camp, a session discussing cloud computing topics using an interactive, unscripted “unconference format,” will close out the conference on Wednesday.
The EAPC will be co-located with the 3rd annual Security Practitioners Conference, which will feature plenary and focused sessions on best practices for architecting information security, as well as trends in governance, risk and compliance.
