SAN FRANCISCO, January 20, 2009 – The Open Group, a vendor- and technology-neutral consortium focused on open standards and global interoperability within and between enterprises, today announced the plenary agenda and preliminary speaker lineup for the inaugural Security Practitioners Conference (SPC), to be held February 4-5, 2009 at the Marriott Mission Valley in San Diego. The SPC will coincide with the 21st Enterprise Architecture Practitioners Conference, and feature executive speakers and analysts who will discuss key security topics, with a primary focus on security for cloud computing services. Other topics include security for SOA, Web 2.0 and virtualization; security architectures; secure software development; audit and logging; and risk management.
“Movement of applications and corporate data into cloud computing environments promises cost savings, scalability, and simple collaboration,” said Jim Hietala, vice president of Security for The Open Group. “Securing cloud computing presents some key challenges and may require rethinking basic security capabilities such as identity management, access control, and audit. In addition, managing enterprise risk in a cloud computing model may require a new level of vendor IT security scrutiny and risk management. The Open Group SPC is designed for industry leaders to share experiences and create best practices for the future of securing cloud computing services.”
Both conference days will begin with a plenary session featuring executives deeply involved in today’s most critical security issues, including Steve Hanna, Juniper Networks; Cyril Guyot, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies; Kristin Lovejoy, IBM; Darren Platt, Symplified; and Michael Williams, HP.
Afternoon sessions will feature focused presentations and panel discussions, each designed to invite lively dialogue with attendees in order to arrive at requirements that will help shape the future of information security in these important areas. Chenxi Wang, principal analyst at Forrester, will lead an interactive focus session while Eric Maiwald, vice president and research director at Burton Group, will guide a panel discussion between Peter Coffee, director of platform research at Salesforce.com, Nils Puhlmann, chief security officer and VP of risk management at Qualys and Jinesh Varia, technology evangelist, Amazon Web Services. Members of The Open Group Security Forum and The Jericho Forum, which include Steve Whitlock, chief information security architect at Boeing and Adrian Seccombe, CISO for Eli Lilly among many others, contributed valuable content and discussion materials to assemble the final conference agenda.
The second conference day – Thursday, February 5 – will include a discussion led by Steve Whitlock about the Jericho Forum’s past accomplishments, future vision and direction. Risk management will be another focal point with presentations on the virtualization of risk and risk assessment, presented by Alexander Ernst, Technische Universität München, and Jeromie Jackson, ComSec, respectively. Additional sessions include secure coding standards, presented by Robert Seacord with CERT; Web 2.0 security led by David Lavenda of Worklight; and common event reporting and audit standards, facilitated by David Corlette of Novell. In addition, Shawn Mullen of IBM will guide an interactive discussion about the new ACEML (Automated Compliance Expert Markup Language) Security Forum standard.
