About
the Program
Members of The Open Group — a technology-neutral and vendor-neutral consortium,
which has a track record in certification services and standards and best practices
development, as well as a long history of work in the enterprise and IT architecture
area through its Architecture Forum — developed the program in response
to the industry demand.
Direct Certification through The Open Group is open to any
candidate meeting the criteria . Two levels of Certification
are available, depending on the length and characteristics
of experience.
Benefits
of becoming certified
IT Architect Certification enables practicing Enterprise
and IT Architects showcase their skill, substantial experience
and achievements and highlights what they can bring to
a project. It provides an opportunity for career advancement,
getting new, challenging assignments and interesting opportunities,
as well as the means to stay in the top salary bands.
All IT Architects that become certified will have the right
to use the Certified IT Architect logo, and be listed in
the Directory of Certified
IT Architects.
Certification
Criteria and Eligibility
Certification is available at two levels: Master Certified
IT Architect (candidates must be able to perform independently
and take responsibility for delivery of systems and solutions
as lead architects, and Certified IT Architect
(candidates must be able to perform with assistance/supervision,
with a wide range of appropriate skills, as a contributing
architects.

Level 2: Master Certified IT Architect
Candidates must be practicing Enterprise / IT Architects and have at least
three years recent experience of developing IT architectures. They must demonstrate
having core foundation skills that include people skills, project management
skills and architecture skills, and meet requirements related to experience,
professional development, and contribution to IT Architecture community.
All requirements must be documented in the application.
Level 1: Certified IT Architect
Candidates must be practicing Enterprise / IT Architects and have at least
two years experience developing IT architectures with supervision; for example,
through mentoring. They are expected to have the ability to produce architectures
with occasional assistance from more experienced IT Architects (e.g., Master
Level IT Architects).

How
to apply, and the certification process
The certification process is straightforward. Please
start with checking out the Certification Guide, and reviewing
the Certification Policy and Conformance Requirements.
There are two levels of conformance defined:
Level 2: Master Certified IT Architect (able to perform
independently
and take responsibility for delivery of systems and solutions
as lead
architect)
Level 1 Certified IT Architect (able to perform with
assistance/supervision, with a wide range of appropriate
skills, as a
contributing architect)

Upon receiving your written application and supporting evidence,
it will be reviewed and evaluated against the conformance
criteria, followed by an interview with a peer panel of Certified
IT Architects either by phone (for Level 1) or in person
at the next available Certification Board Review (for Level
2). The Certification Board
Reviews are held regularly (at least quarterly). Please note
that to be scheduled for a Board your application must be
submitted and explicitly accepted by the Certification Authority
at least 45 days in advance of the Board Review.
The Certification Authority will notify you in writing about
the outcome of the certification process. Subject to successful
completion and accepting the Trademark License Agreement,
you will be entitled to use the title and logo of a Certified
IT Architect, and have your information entered in the Directory
of Certified IT Architects.
Pricing
The pricing for both levels is the same. The initial certification cost is
$1,250 per individual, plus an annual fee of $175. The fee for recertification,
which is required every 3 years, is $625.
